Privacy

CryptoMarkets has no accounts, no sign-up and no newsletter. We set no tracking cookies and run no advertising trackers; the only cookie is the language you choose, if you choose one. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless.

What your browser sends to other services

These are the only third-party services the pages contact from your browser:

  • Binance (data-api.binance.vision, data-stream.binance.vision) for live prices and the 24-hour price charts, and fstream.binance.com for the live liquidations tape on the home page
  • CoinPaprika (api.coinpaprika.com) for market cap, volume and Bitcoin dominance, and for prices when Binance cannot be reached
  • Alternative.me (api.alternative.me) for the Fear & Greed Index and its last 7 days
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics (static.cloudflareinsights.com): cookieless, aggregate page views, no personal profiles
  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com), only on the Russian, Ukrainian, Korean and Japanese editions, for the typefaces those scripts need

News, exchange status and a backup copy of the market numbers come from our own server. That backup is a market snapshot our server takes from CoinLore; your browser does not contact CoinLore.

As with any website, these services receive your IP address and basic browser details when your browser connects. Their own privacy policies apply. The Latin font is served from our own domain; the Cyrillic, Korean and Japanese typefaces come from Google Fonts.

Voting

You can vote bullish or bearish on a story and answer the daily BTC poll without an account. Your vote goes to our own server. To count one vote per person, your browser keeps a random voter code, made the first time you vote; it says nothing about you. The server never stores this code, only a one-way hash of it that is different for every story and every poll day. If your browser cannot keep the code, the server instead uses a code made from a salted daily hash of your IP address and browser details (user agent). To limit abuse, every vote also carries a salted daily hash of your network address. The salt changes every day and is not kept, so these codes cannot be turned back into your IP address or linked across days. We never store your raw IP address or browser details with a vote. Votes and poll answers are deleted after 30 days.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes technical request data, such as IP addresses and request times, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Filters and settings

Region, country and topic filters are kept in the page address so you can share a filtered view. Three things are stored on your device, in your browser’s local storage: the last set of market numbers the page loaded (prices, market cap and the Fear & Greed Index), so the page can still show them, marked as cached, when the data services cannot be reached; your own votes, so the buttons show what you picked; and, once you vote, the random voter code described under Voting. None of them contains personal data, and clearing your browser’s site data removes all three.

If you pick a language in the menu, the site sets one functional cookie, cm_lang. It holds only the language code you chose, lasts one year, is set by this site only and is not used for tracking. It lets the site remember your choice instead of redirecting you by location. Clearing your browser’s cookies resets it.
